Thank you. That's helpful. Think the Joseph Jefferson who married Sarah Wilson is more likely to be the correct person.

There are a number of baptisms for the name in the County but this one would fit the English naming pattern with the mother being Hannah?

Hanah. Barnes Baptism 14 Nov 1773
Saint Mary, Carlisle, Cumberland
Father Robert Barnes
Mother Hanah.

I've looked at that death record, but came to the conclusion that it was not the correct person. I found a burial record for a Sarah Jefferson, in Carlisle, on 11/01/1804, aged 22. If this is the correct Sarah maybe Joseph remarried?

Checked the parish records, Sarah was the wife of Joseph Jefferson.

Thanks for that. It's a great help. Are there any records of Joseph's demise?

Possible clue?

20 June 1829: Carlisle Patriot
Quote
DEATHS
...
At  Howend, near Thursby, on Tuesday last, of typhus fever, Hannah, daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Jefferson, of the above place, aged 18.

I found another one:

18 January 1834: Carlisle Journal
Quote
At Howend, on Sunday last, Mr Isaac Jefferson, formerly draper in London, and second son of the late Mr. Joseph Jefferson, of the former place, aged 34 years.

Looking at Thursby baptisms both this Isaac, and the Hannah in my previous post, match baptisms of the children of JJ and Hannah Mark. Thus Joseph Jefferson died before 1829.

A notice in the Carlisle Patriot of 19 June 1824, concerning the diversion of a footpath, mentions "the Lands of Mr Joseph Jefferson of Howend".  If this is the same JJ, this narrows his date of death to 1824–1829 (daughter Hannah's death notice, where he is referred to as 'late')
