Hi, I am having the usual trouble with same names and dates of birth that is so common in Wales. I know that some people living in Flint Common were baptised at Northop. My question is a little general sorry. I’m trying to get a feel for whether someone who lived in Flint itself might be baptised at Northop or whether Northop just ‘swept up’ Flint Common, and other townships like Leadbrook, Soughton etc.
My strategy for same name/age baptisms is to group together families by township or Parish. So if a Census record says born Flint, then that’s where I’d look. But I’d appreciate some insight if anyone can help as to how ‘fluid’ the parish boundaries were. I’m talking about the period 1830-1860 ish. Somehow I can’t see a hard working coal miner/labourer going to Northop for a baptism if he could use his Parish Church in Flint. Unless of course he/she had family connections in Northop.
Reason for asking is that a lot of Ancestry trees seem to cherry pick Northop without considering the likelihood or proving a connection.
Thanks
Jane
