Hi Wivenhoe, I have already answered a couple of your questions. I saw the date of the photo of Sgt William Hugh Laing on the back of his photo in uniform 1st June 1913. Also the number was on the back of the Medals, that I have now found out earlier today were Badges, issued to men who had tried to enlist in the Army and were rejected because they were Medically unfit. I William Hugh Lings case he had flat feet.
I was after the department, where I could obtain the record. I wasn't needing anyone to look for me, so all the details you suggested were not necessary to give. What was necessary was for me to let folk know where I had already looked so they would waste time doing a search.
Since this morning, I did a google for the Medal/Badge and found a similar one and found it and another one with required for Home Service, a Badge was awarded to men who had volunteered for service and rejected or were required for home Service as many were jeered at as letting the country down for not joining as they never wore a uniform. A certificate was given at the same time. So help is still needed to find where the Badge and certificate information can be found. My son went to the Army Museum in the Old Goall adjoining the Anglesea Barracks today, but they said to go to the National Archive of Hobart. I thought that was the same place as Tasmanian Archives of Hobart.
The photo of the Medal comes from my brother in law who has two of the Badges. I dont know the significance of the numbers on the back. Maybe just the issue number.
So if you know where to find the Records of these men who were rejected for being Medically unfit, Wivenhoe, that is all that is needed. Thanks for responding
