I'll have to think about the 1849 marriage Shaun, and I might need to check the certificate!

William full age a farmer - father Robert a farmer

Barbara full age - father Jacob a farmer

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire

Well that certainly sounds like them doesn’t it!  :o Scandalous for the time’ I wonder what prompted them to finally marry?

Thanks!

Sounds like a charming fellow!  The James Black, executor mentioned in the second clip is his son-in-law, married to daughter Barbara 1843

Thanks!

Probably not as unusual as you think.  Sometimes there was a previous marriage for one party and divorce was expensive, or maybe an unplanned pregnancy so they just carried on with life as if they were married.  If as it appears without further research that is their marriage then they have married where people would not know them, he gives his abode as East Ham but she has hers as in London

True Rosie99.

I had forgotten a similar instance up my own tree where the previous husband had absconded, and three children (including my ancestor) were born to the new relationship before they married. Presumably after the death of the absconder.  30 years still seems a long time though!

I've ordered the marriage certificate so we'll see what ages they gave!

Cheers,
Jane
