Birmingham Workhouse
« on: Tuesday 09 July 24 17:46 BST (UK) »
I have a birth certificate from 1920.  Born at 1 Union Road, Birmingham and his mothers address is  7 Court 14 House New Summer Street Birmingham. Her occupation is Cycle Markers Press Worker.  I can find mother and child on the 1921 census at the Birmingham Workhouse with a different address.  Trying to work out if this child was born in the workhouse and that the workhouse had different addresses for different parts of it. Thank you.

who/what is at the birth address in 1921? That should indicate if a private residence or part of workhouse.

Hi Pauline, the address on the 1921 is Selly Oak workhouse, King's Norton Union Workhouse, Birmingham, she can be found with her baby.  Also found another child (age 3 1/2) of the mother living there but on a different page.  Mother's occupation was Power Presser, Messrs Wallon & Brown, Steel Workers, Place of work Brierley Hill, B'Ham. Thank you Pamela

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
