Jessie May THATCHER
« on: Tuesday 09 July 24 09:49 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping that someone with access to Australian records may be able to help.   When the UK 1911 census was published, we found a previously unknown great aunt of my wife; Jessie May THATCHER b 8 Sep 1910.   She also appears on the 1921 census and after that disappears.   A record has come to light that may solve the mystery:

On 24 November 1939 a Jessie THATCHER aged 29 takes passage on board Strathnaver (Southampton - Brisbane).

I'd be grateful if there are any sightings or knowledge for Jessie in Australia.

Harry

Yes, I was just about to post the same article. As this Jessie THATCHER is returning home after being in England, I would think she is unlikely to be yours.

Another article about someone going to visit Jessie THATCHER in England a few months earlier "a fellow Queenslander"

There is a Jessie M WALKER born 8 Sept 1910 on the 1939 register in Aireborough, Yorkshire - have you ruled her out?

Thanks for the information, that rules out the Jessie travelling to Brisbane.

I need to have a look at Jessie WALKER in Yorkshire.   On the face of it, she married as Jessie M HOBSON, possibly a second marriage??  That seems unlikely as the marriage was in 1930 when she would have been 20.

The Jessie THATCHER who died in Sydney in 1951 was 68 years old, father - Thomas with Howieson in brackets (according to the NSW BDM index), so born c1883.

Thanks all,

I'm sure I can rue out the Jessie May who travelled to Australia.   The search continues...
