I used the Advanced Search with 3 search terms:

Charles Rogers
Birth year 1869 +_ 2
Optional keyword: zealand

There was just one hit.
UK Census info. Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

I've been playing around with Find my Past since receiving all the replies.
I think my big mistake was putting in Invercargill, New Zealand. When I left the town out the search I too only got one possible hit.
