I have found a record that is possibly her:

She arrived on the Saphire in 1846 in Tasmania and then went to Sydney.

If this isn't her I can't find any arrival yet for the time line on another ship.

Let me know if you have an ancestry account if not I can upload an image for you.

What makes you think that a Margaret Daniels who would be a child if your date of birth is accurate, would  arrive per "Sapphire" ?  and then state, on a hospital record, that she arrived per "Red Jacket"?

Hi Sue,
Thankyou for your help.
I was thinking-dangerous I know!!!

That she arrived Tas in 1856, came to South Australia in 1858, married William Bissett in April 1858. Then John Fitzgerald in Norwood, SA 1870.
Then when she was admitted to hospital in Sept 1878 hospital records said she had been in the colony for 20 years.
This is why I wondered if the "Red Jacket" could have come via Tas?
Could she have been on board if it did?
I need to look into her family more as I don't know if maybe she had a brother called Thomas.. Her Grandfather was Thomas.
Thanks again
Cheers,
Chris

Just to clear it up, the Saphire arrived in 1846, I think you are getting your decades mixed up.

Thanks Debra!!!
My bad    :o   :-\
Oh well, begin again.
Never mind, as my dad would say.

Margaret Rebecca Daniels is a mystery.
My cousin thought originally that she came from Scotland, but travelled there to trace the family and disproved that.
Yorkshire has not been proven.
Hence my query here.
I thought that the ship was a good clue. More investigation required.
Dearie me.

The hospital admission record gives her place of birth as Bristol and she was Roman Catholic.

A possibility is this Margaret in 1841 and 1851 with her family.  The surname jumps around with many variations similar to McDONNEL, McDANIEL, DONNELL, DANIEL etc.

1841

Michael Daniel, 40, Labourer
Bridget Daniel, 40
Mary Daniel, 12
Margaret Daniel, 5
William Daniel, 4 Mo

Michael and Bridget born in Ireland, the children in Gloucestershire

(Piece: 378; Book: 11 Folio: 18  Page number: 31)

1851

Bridget Donils, 50
Mary Donils, 21
Margaret Donils, 17
William Donils, 12
Joseph Donils, 3

Bridget is a widow.

(Piece: 1954; Folio: 685; Page number: 29)

Perhaps Margaret couldn't remember or didn't know her father's name and gave her brother instead when she married.

Michael DANIEL and Bridget (Birgitta) MEINAN were married in Bristol 3 July 1836.

I don't know what is going on with Bridget's maiden surname after 1833, I am just the messenger  ;D

Baptisms at RC church, Colston Avenue, St Mary-on-the-Quay

Patrick DONNELL born 17 May 1829, parents Michael and Bridget (MEANY)
Maria McDONNELL born 12 Jan 1831, parents Michael and Bridget (MEINAN)
John McDONNELL born 6 August 1833, parents Michael and Bridget (no maiden surname)
Margaret DONNELL born 6 April 1836, parents Michael and Bridget (CONNELL)

Michael DANIEL, born 22 Aug 1838, parents Michael and Bridget (DANIEL)
William DANIEL, born 24 Jan 1841, parents Michael and Bridget (CONNOR)
Michael Joseph McDONEL baptised 23 May 1847, parents Michael and Bridget (no maiden surname)

The last three were were born after civil registration.

MCDANIEL, MICHAEL

MCDANIEL, MICHAEL

I don't know, might be worth a look for her siblings?

Thankyou so much Debra...

And I thought my German ancestors were a problem with names!

Well, this puts a different slant on things!
Very kind of you to persue this for me.
I am in South Australia and  my cousins are in Queensland and New South Wales, so we really are not au fait with chasing different areas up in England.
I will contacr them with your suggestions.
Cheers,
Chris

Is this your family?

From Ancestry tree -

1858   Margaret DANIELS  m.  William BISSETT

   1859   William BISSETT                              born

1862  George Frederick Alfred BISSETT       born

    1864  William BISSETT                              died

1870  Margaret BISSETT  (widow)     m.   John FITZGERALD

How does Margaret BISSETT, widow with two small children, support herself for six years before second marriage?

From marriage certificate, 1858, what do you see for witnesses?
