Luke Lee
« on: Wednesday 03 July 24 16:53 BST (UK) »
I have the record of my great x 2 grandfather; Luke Lee born 1805-1888. He married Maria Flowers in 1838 in Calverton, Notts, but his father is not recorded on his marriage certificate. So I have struggled to trace his ancestors.
Some people on the myheritage site have linked him with parents; Robert and Ann (Wayman) from Littleport, Cambs. But, I cannot find Luke’s baptism record to link him with these parents.
They have also linked him with 8 siblings, most of whom have baptism records in Littleport but one daughter listed as being born in the same year as Luke has a baptism record but Luke doesn’t have a bpt record.
Is anyone also tracing this family and have recorded confirmation for these facts?
Many Thanks

I had a look into this for you, and I noticed that 2 of the witnesses to Luke's marriage were Ephraim and Sarah Meades [sic].

Ephraim Meads married Sarah Lee on 27th October 1831 in Calverton. She herself was born c.1809 in Calverton; on the balance of probabilities, Sarah is likely Luke's sister.

Hi
I looked at the marriage c 1830 and 10years plus either way and like you found Sarah Lee and Ephraim Meades. Their witnesses were William Fletcher and William Shepherd
William Sheppard seems to be a church clerk but they both appear on the marriage of Elizabeth Lee and Robert Skerritt 16.11.1831.
Their first child is Eliza baptised  15.5.1832 at the Wesleyan chapel and Elizabeth is the daughter of William and Elizabeth Lee.

William Lee married Elizabeth FFrogg 10.4.1798 Calverton
Children baptised at the Anglican church.
Stephen 11.5.1800 (actually born 1798)
Ann 11.5.1800
John 6.5.1804.

Could the others have been taken to the Wesleyan church and just not survived? There are no christenings for Luke and Maria's children  at the Anglican church.

William Lee baptised 17.9.1769 s of Bart and Ann Lee
Elizabeth Frogg 27.10.1772 d of John and Mary Frog.

ps Bart is described as a stockiner on his son Bart's bapt 28.10.1764

Luke certainly seems to be connected to Calverton  not Cambridgeshire.

Sorry for the late reply…. I have been away.

Thank you for all of your replies. I have Luke’s marriage certificate plus lots of other info.

Like Ciderdrinker said, my thoughts are that the Lee family are based around Calverton. A lot of the being Stockingers by trade. Living in and around Windles Square. So I am reluctant to agree with the person who has linked them with a Cambridgeshire family.

I will certainly follow up the info that Ciderdrinker found to see if I vacant find a link there.

Thanks again all.
