Ancestry Pro Tools price increase already
« on: Saturday 29 June 24 08:46 BST (UK) »
If you haven't already signed up for Pro Tools then be aware that new UK and Australian users have seen a price increase introduced already.

UK users were offered a price of £4.99 at launch earlier this week but that has increased to £7.99. For those who signed up at £4.99 the renewal price on their account page is currently showing £4.99 but it would seem odd for it to remain at that price of new users are being asked to pay more.

Whatever currency you pay in after doing the conversion it looks like they have decided it will mean $10 into their account. Not forgetting that's on top of the records sub needed before they even offer pro tools.

Looked at ProTools last Thursday and thought I'd try it for a month or two - you're right last week's £4.99 has become today's £7.99. Ancestry really seems to do little more than gouge it's existing customer base - Newspapers.com is only complete if you take out the extra Publisher susbscription and now this. Sorry I'll not be subscribing.

I agree but for them to take notice it would mean everyone cancelling. I can't see that happening in the world we live in today, far too many happily pay for takeouts to be delivered just to save them cooking or a coffee at lunchtime when there's a kettle in the staff room.
Convenience comes at a very inflated price.

A month subscription for me is more than enough.

In practice I am not too bothered about making connections to every DNA match.  I simply do not have the time left in my life to devote to the task.  Any Match over 50cM is of interest, 20 > 50cM then less so, unless there is a clear pathway and the reward is worth the effort.

I have three brickwalls and two of them are already crumbling even without Pro Tools.

By the time the generation who will inherit our Family Tree then the descendants of my over 50cM matches will be so low in cM that and just names in a family tree as probably to be of little interest to them.

Hence Pro Tools IMO is unlikely to be of any use so a significant period of time.

I live in Australia and logged into the .com site to purchase Pro Tools as it hadn't been released in Australia at the time. It cost me $10US which equated to $17.70AU after currency conversion. A few days later it had been released in Australia and was $13AU it is now $14.99AU. So I will cancel my membership and then use the Australian site as $15 is still better than $17.70.

I've only just seen the Pro Tools upgrade. I've always wanted to be able to see how my matches compared to each other and in some cases I've asked and not received. Less pleased about paying extra for it though  ::)

In Canada it went from $7.49/mo to $12.99/mo ... very annoying and no note that the lower price was a limited time offer.
