Robert Henry foreman 1789-1842
« on: Friday 28 June 24 10:56 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone.
Trying to find if my Foreman ancestors were from Ireland.
I have Robert Henry Foreman(known as Henry) who married Sophia Swanton
and possibly Eleanor Mary Shamus, think she was his first wife who died, I would like to trace Roberts father and mother Michael Foreman 1756-1835,and Winifred Bruce 1756-?. Hoping this may get me closer to finding out if the Foremans did come over from Limerick.
Shopia was born 1807-died1882,Eleanor born 1795-?

Hi
Lets start with Robert Henry's marriage so others who might help will have a bit more info.

Henry Foreman widower married 1.9.1828 at St George the Martyr Southwark ,London to Sophia Swanton
wit Robert Foreman and Phyliis Hearny

First marriage at same church to Eleanor Mary Marlow nee Shamus 30.8.1815
wit Richard Hurst and Robert Buck Lowthorpe

And his parents married
Michael Foreman and Winifred Bruce 30.1.1781 at St Clement le danes wit John Foreman and Eleanor Dorrelly
Children
Michael bapt 22.2./19.3.1783 St Martins in the fields Buried 25.3.1827 Bridge St Covent Garden
John bapt 20.2/21.3.1784-29.3.1827 St George Hanover Square

Sister Winifred Martha bapt 20.11.1791  (indexed as 1795)St Martins in the Fields buried 30.1.1855 of 5 Chandor St.

Burial of parents both at St Martins in the fields

Micheal Foreman 1756-17.7.1835 Bedford St The Strand

He left a PCC Will .Daughter Winifred got all his stock,Henry all his craft and George money from Friendly Benefit Society.
There is a Winifred Foreman lace maker 47 Bedford St in Piggotts Directory 1822 who could be sister or mother.
Michael was renting the property in 1801 according to the Land Tax records.Unhelpfully we do not know what his occupation was from his Will or parish records.

Winifred Bruce was a local girl born /bapt St Annes Soho 11.2./23.3.1756 d of John and Winifred.
John was a shoemaker who died 7.3.1761 leaving Winifred with 3 children -Winifred 5,John 2 and Thomas a new born.

You say they came from Limerick but there is a baptism for Michael Foreman at Greenwich 24.4.1756 to John and Margaret Foreman which would fit with his age .One of the witnesses at his wedding is John  Foreman.

I'll keep looking
Others beat me to it.

Looks like Michael Foreman may have been a lighter man
www.londonlives.org/search.jsp?form=persNames&_persNames_surname=Foreman&match_sur=exact&_persNames_given=Michl&match_giv=exact&_persNames_div0Type=CW_ICfile&fromMonth=&from

And in 1789 he is a witness at the Old Bailey against John Gates.

Micheal apprenticed to Samuel Woodward lighterman 11.12.1772 ST Martins in the Fields
free 20.1.1780
The same year second in Thomas Doggart Coat and Badge race
1797 took on own son Micheal 9.3.1797-29.3.1804.

There is a sister for Micheal -Martha bapt 9.9./8.10.1758 at Woolwich St Marys.
And it looks like Margarret died and John remarried
John Foreman widower married St Mary Woolwich 1.6.1763 Margaret Harding spinster.
wit William Stevens and Wilfred Young.
