1939 register and 1921 census
« on: Friday 28 June 24 08:31 BST (UK) »
Hi
Wondering if you can help.
Cannot find my father and mother on the register or the census.
I thought it was a bit odd that neither are recorded.

They were married in 1951

Were they born in 1921?
Do you have their parents names and places they lived?
Have you searched for their parents and older siblings if any?

Looking at that earlier thread, was your father cared for by an older sibling?
There is a redacted entry with Albert Lockley and his wife.

John mentioned that your maternal grandmother was Evelyn M Spittle born 1903

She was with her parents in 1939, there is a redacted entry under her name which is probably your mother

Did your parents die in England / Wales.  If they died abroad then their entries would still be redacted as there would be no death record here to link to the entry on the 1939 register

ADDED
Just found them in online tree, they died in Australia

Dad was orphaned aged 12 and brought up by his sister Ellen Edith and then brother Albert

Ellen was a cook at Saint Pauls Institute, St Paul's Street West, Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, .
1939 register
Albert was a colliery stoker and living at 13, Holly Bush, Cannock, Staffordshire, 1939 register

Neither of these registers contain my dad.

My grandmother Evelyn May Spittle in 1939 register was living at 61, Leslie Road, Heath Town, Staffordshire. Mom would have been 11 years old but there is no mention of her.

The 1939 Register was used was used by the NHS until the early 1990s, only people who are under  100 Years of age are redacted unless the Register was updated with their deaths.

Findmypast are now working through them gradually opening the entries of those who would now be 100 years or over. If you know someone younger has died, if you provide proof you can ask for their entry to be opened.

If you look at the register, you can see the black line covering the names.
Jebber has given a fuller explanation.
