Brian Boden born Sheffield 1935
« on: Tuesday 18 June 24 15:10 BST (UK) »
BIRTH 2 NOV 1935 • Sheffield, Yorkshire, England

DEATH 4 NOV 2017 • Sheffield, Yorkshire, England

Not done any tree stuff for a number of years and I'm struggling to remember what to do/where to go.

I'm looking for parents of the above.

I have a possible mother, Ellen Naylor.

ANY info would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There are 8 Boden/Naylor births 1917-1935 Sheffield and a marriage for likely parents in 1916 Sheffield

Free search of 1921 census
Sheffield
Ernest and Ellen with 3 children
Free search of 1939 Register
Ellen (widowed) with children, Brian will still be redacted as his death was recent.
FamilySearch is free to use, also GRO index, just register and you can do a lot of free searching, especially on FindMyPast. Also purchase individual records from them (FMPast)

Many thanks for all of that.

Am I right in thinking that 2 Bodens and 2 Naylors were married on the same day? Christmas Day.

Or is the Jessie Judith not Boden but Barden?

Free BMD index for Dec 1916 Sheffield Marriages has

Catherine B Barton - William H Quaggan

Ellen Naylor - Ernest Boden

the surnames are cross referenced with each other if that helps
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

She signs the register as Jessie Judith Barden

Marriages Dec qtr 1916
Barden    Jessie J
Naylor    Thomas H W
Sheffield    9c   978

The marriage of William Henry Quaggan and Catherine Bertha Barton are on the page prior to Ernest Bodens marriage.

Sheffield is in the WEST Riding

register at: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/ includes marriages, which are not on the GRO site.  Generally has more flexible searching but does not include age at death before 1866, nor mother's maiden surname before 1912.

Also try exploring http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/

e.g. search Burial Records for Ernest Boden, he was buried in 1926.
Click on "Find Similar in Same Grave" and there is Ellen buried 1986, also another person who may be related.  Various other indexes on this site.

That throws a spanner in my works! ???

Brian BODEN

BIRTH 2 NOV 1935 • Sheffield, Yorkshire, England

DEATH 4 NOV 2017 • Sheffield, Yorkshire, England

I was told that his mother was Ellen Naylor and father was Ernest, but Ernest died 1926 according to this!

Can't find a record to say that she remarried and had another 3 children including Brian!

She out lived him by 60 years!
