There is an entry for a Julia SCOTT daughter of Julia DARCY (or SCOTT), died in Female Refuge, Crown St, grand daughter of Allan SCOTT (the same as on the 1892 marriage certicate) on the Dependent Children Register in 1904. Says the child was illegitimate.

You may be right culbaire. For comparison, here's the name from the birth certificate of her son - she didn't sign and presumably had an accent, so the name appears as the registrar heard.

Also, the 1892 marriage does say Thomas was born Sydney (not Grafton).

There is a birth certificate posted to Ancestry for Thomas DARCY 20 Feb 1870 at Grafton, parents Thomas DARCY and Catherine nee HOULAGHAN (again, hard to read). So I guess this is the same man, not sure why he says born Sydney on his 1892 marriage, or why he was in Sydney.

I'll look at the NSW BDM tomorrow for the children's birth registrations to see which mother is stated.

Does his marriage certificate give Thomas' occupation? Regular ships travelled between Grafton and Sydney.
