Records for acts at the Pavilion Ramsgate Kent, 1900s
« on: Thursday 13 June 24 20:33 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone, I’m back looking at family stuff again after a long break.
My grandmother Dorothy Nancy Stephens performed at the Pavilion theatre in Ramsgate in the 1920s & I was wondering if there would be any records available to view?
Many thanks

According to records the Pavillion ceased to be a Theatre in 1913 and became a Cinema before the 1920's.

What type of performer was she? Is it possible that she played accompaniments to silent films?

Thank you for the replies. I think she sang. I have been shown part of a newspaper article (Thanet Advertiser) March 1923, where she appears to have won 5th prize. Her name was Dorothy Nancy May Sherred. My original post stated her surname as Stephens.

Born 1908.

The beginning of that article says

“The annual tea and prize distribution in connection with the Ramsgate Wesleyan Church took place in the Centenary Hall on Thursday last week.  About 250 scholars and friends …….”

Then there was a concert presented by the children.

That’s lovely, thank you.
My nana had written on the back of the photo “ performed for 1 week at the Pav, age 14yrs”
It is nice to see what the occasion was.

I wonder why my nana stated it was at “the Pav”? And for one week?
Perhaps she had wished it was!

If you sign up to the British newspaper archive you can see 3 clips for free.
As you know exactly which newspaper and date, you could get the whole article for yourself .
