Splendid! Thanks very much Kay and Boo.
This fits very neatly into the Lobban family and the DNA match that I found using ThruLines on Anc**try,
Isabella Smith was very young when she got married - born December 1857 and married in August 1874 - so perhaps there was an element of secrecy about the marriage. Alexander was about 15 years older than her.
I am enjoying using ThruLines to confirm most of my DNA matches. It's a useful tool.

Just like to say that Alexander Lobban's residence on the 1881 Census is Inverkeithny, Banffshire. (Parish Reference No: 158.). Inverkeithing is in Fife, Scotland. (Parish Reference No: 432.)

     Regards,     Dod.

I am gradually filling this branch of my tree.
James Lobban b 11 April 1880 sadly died in WWI on 23 March 1918 in France. James had married Sarah Smith in Q June 1900 in Sunderland.
Sarah A Lobban is the widow of James in the WWI Pension Ledger with a DoB of 3 April 1880. She is Sarah ALICE Smith in the 1911 Census.
Then ... trees have Sarah marrying Joseph B Johnson in Q June 1927 in Sunderland.
But ..... no trees have a death record or date of death for Sarah.
The 1939 Register has a Sarah A Johnson with a DoB of 3 November 1878. Is this our Sarah?
...
What happened?

The death is for the Sarah who married Joseph, going by dates of birth on 1939

Have you got the right 1911 entry. I've found her with James, although Ancestry have indexed her as wife, age 1

"The death is for the Sarah who married Joseph, going by dates of birth on 1939."
Which death record?
****
I am pretty sure I have the correct 1911 Census record. The document clearly says aged 31 and I made a comment to that effect. James and Sarah had been married for 10 years and had 5 children 2 of whom had died.

Well done Ladyhawk.
I just guessed that this might be the death record for Sarah, just because her son Walter had a St Albans connection.
JOHNSON, SARAH  ALICE  age 73; GRO Reference: 1953  S Quarter in ST. ALBANS  Volume 04B  Page 132

That gives us more information about daughter Margaret too. Now I can finish for the day knowing we (you) have solved that mystery.
Thank you.
Richard
P.S. She is NOT JOHNSON, SARAH  ALICE  age 76
