Need help!
« on: Tuesday 11 June 24 08:54 BST (UK) »
Hi all, i have been researching for a friend who doesn't know much about her family, i thought i was making good progress but i'm really stuck.

my research starts with the marriage between Leslie hardy and May bagnall, ashbourne Q2 1934, they had at least 3 children including george, whose birth is in ashbourne with mothers surname bagnall.

I thought i had found leslie and may living in belper in 1939 but there are no children living with them (not even redacted), i contacted someone who had that leslie and may in their tree but he was convinced that may's surname was jewkes and not bagnall which is definitely not the one i am tracing as the childrens birth records states their mother as bagnall.

I can't find any may bagnalls that would fit, just a mary ellen bagnall, daughter of alfred and ellen but she married somebody else.

i researched the leslie hardy b1899 from the 1939 register believing him to be the one i was looking for, his parents james hardy and edith dunnicliffe, i feel like i have spent hours researching and got absolutely nowhere!
Any help would be greatly appreciated, maybe a fresh pair of eyes can shed some light on things.

Are the children you have named now deceased? Rootschat policy is to not name living persons.
The marriage certificate will give you fathers’ names and occupations which will be helpful.

You do need to start with the marriage certificate.

I see that at least three of their children appear to have been baptised in Mayfield, Staffordshire. Perhaps that is where they lived.

Hi, thanks for the reply, i have edited the post removing those who may still be alive.
I managed to do extensive research on my own family using just what was available online so i was hoping i could do the same, as i am already doing this research for free i'm not willing to pay for the copy certificate, unfortunately the pdf download isn't available for that record otherwise i would have done it.

Ashbourne Telegraph Friday 18th June 1943

Local Soldier From Tunis

'Incorrect name given for returning soldier - correct name is Leslie Hardy from Ilkeston who had married Miss Bagnall of Wall Ash, Mayfield. She died about ten weeks ago, leaving a young family who are now being cared for by her brother and his wife Mr & Mrs W Bagnall at Derby.'

Looks like May Hardy is in Wallash, Mayfield in the 1939 Register, with Annie Bagnall (1872)  three redacted children, and Josephine.
