There's a probate of a Francis Bentley who died on 13 June 1934, residence 64 St Pauls Road, Middlesbrough, to Margaret Bentley widow

Francis does seem to be quite bit older than Margaret. Maybe they never married because he was already married.

LizzieL, just working on Francis but still putting together details but so far,

1901 census ref 4574 34 6. Look closely at his birthplace, it matches that of his brother Frank who appears with Ethel Ann in 1921.

I got the father's name of Charles from a newspaper report of Ethel Bentley / Shields to Edgar H Schofield in 1911, but could be actually John Charles. Ethel is 4th daughter. In 1891 Francis is 16 and crew on a ship somewhere.

 Pretty sure that Francis is recorded as Frank in 1881 census (4798 34 6 ). MMN Thompson as per siblings.
