Dumaresq Island Manning River Taree

Trying to find address of property of my Wife's Ancestor James Holder born 1823 died 1899 and later his Son James Henry Holder who died in Sydney 1936.   James Holder settled on a property on Dumaresq Island near Taree.  The island is 108 square miles (old scale) with two major roads -- Newtons Road and Dumaresq Island Road.   The Holders land fronted one of these running down to the river with a jetty.
Can someone kindly help?

James Henry Holder's obit (link below, no sub required) states that they left the island around ten years earlier.  If all else fails, perhaps search the Trove Newspaper site for sale adverts in the 1920's?

On second thought, they may not have sold...
An obit of a daughter states that daughter and mother went back to Dumaresq after James' death, but it isn't clear if they went back to the original home.

Yes, had a look at this but could not find a name with a property.
Land Titles NSW site a bit of a minefield.

I cannot find it again, but I saw an article in a local newspaper which had the Dumaresque Island Hall being built on land donated by the HOLDER family.  It might still be standing.

I think it was built in the late 1920s

Hi,

I am a member of the Manning Wallamba Family History Society based in Taree. We work out of the MidCoast Library in Taree & on the wall in our section there is a large map drawn up by George Ochs, a local surveyor in about 1872. It shows names of property owners on the map. If you son is able to go to the library he may find the location of the property on that map. We have volunteers at the library Monday to Saturday from 10am to 12 noon. Our researchers may have more information. Check out the Society's website about research.
