DNA connection to Grandfather
« on: Wednesday 05 June 24 16:09 BST (UK) »
I am helping a friend try to find her paternal Grandfather, Thomas William Jackson. I have his marriage cert 1955 giving his age as 22 born c1933, occupation: Sergeant, home address: Military Hospital, Catterick Garrison, Yorkshire. Father: Thomas William Jackson, occupation: Forestry Worker of Foundry Worker.

I have built a tree on ancestry who have DNA matches with my friend on her Paternal side.
The closest match I could find for her Grandfather is a Thomas W Jackson born 1927, Easingwold. Father Herbert Jackson b 1895 Mother: Mary Jane Bulmer b 1895. The surname Bulmer is a DNA link.

The birth date & father does not match with the marriage cert.

Any help greatly received.

Anything likely on the 1939 register? What names witnessed the marriage?

My friend done her DNA with Ancestry.com. With some of her Paternal DNA matches I have managed to build a tree.

Father: Thomas William Jackson, occupation: Forestry Worker of Foundry Worker.
The surname Bulmer is a DNA link.

For consideration: The father on the marriage record could be invented. Occupation sounds like two different jobs.  ???  Unless you can't make out the writing? Did you mean to say "or" rather than "of"?

So, the Bulmer surname is a definite DNA match?

Does your friend not know where her grandfather was born/lived before the army?

Does your friend know when and where her grandfather died?

I think the Thomas William Jackson born in 3rd quarter 1927 may be the same as Thomas William Jackson dob 24 July 1927 who died in St Helens district in 1989.

Occupation should say Forestry or Foundry Worker. Hard to read but I believe it says Foresty Worker.

Bulmer surname is defiantly a match at 26cM

Have you checked Scotland's People for a possible birth? One of my friend's had a Scottish soldier stationed at Catterick Garrison around the same time.
