GRO British Forces births overseas - ordering a cert?
« on: Saturday 01 June 24 13:52 BST (UK) »
What reference do you use to order a certificate, for a birth in the British Armed Forces Overseas Births and Baptisms index.

My daughter is getting married next year and her fiancé was born in the Philippines. He holds a British passport, which shows his place of birth as Philippines.

I’ve found the entry in FindMyPast which helpfully lets me see an image, which gives a type (C/HC), page and a DOB (month).

He’s hoping his mother has a copy but if not and he needs to order one, what reference is he supposed to give the GRO?

Thanks
Lisa

Just no idea what the reference is, even have looked at the image. Stumped.

And “ nationality at birth” - whose would he take, his father, a British National, or his mother, a Philippines National?

How can the event be identified?
I know the GRO Index Reference
I want GRO to search for the registration and will provide details to identify it
(see If I don't have the index reference what will happen?)

Always the father's nationality, I think.

Yes, that would make sense.

He may have both from birth

I was born in Germany as my father was in the forces and have British nationality from birth, but my mother wasn't German so I don't get both

The Phillipines have if you were born there and ONE of your parents was a Philippine National (from 1973) you have Philippine nationality from birth
