John Katram b. 1768 Middlewich, Cheshire
« on: Friday 31 May 24 09:06 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace what happened to John Katram, who was baptised on 9th September 1768 in Middlewich. His mother was Elizabeth Katram and the reputed father was Ralph Poynton. Ralph married Mary Yardley in June 1768. I cannot find any record of John Katram after 1768 and he is not mentioned in the will of Ralph Pointon(sic) who died in 1812 in North Rode, Cheshire.
Pointon, Turnock, Bailey, Doorbar, Wilshaw (Staffordshire, especially Potteries);   Sharpley, Dykes, Penlington, Shuker. (Cheshire, Rainow, Audlem, Nantwich areas)

Did his mother marry and possibly change his surname to her married name?

Did he die in infancy?

There was a John Katham, age 23, who married Jane Stubbs on 1st October 1792, in Barthomley, 15 miles from Middlewich.

Could be a spelling error or misunderstood

Children under different variations

Elizabeth Cathrom 1796 in Barthomley

Also some in nearby Haslington

Samuel Catrzm in 1792
looks like Catrom or Catram with a mark making it look like a z

Mary Cattrom on 1803

Hannah Catram in 1806

Jane Catteram in 1812

Jane Catram of Haslington left a will in 1852, leaving everything to her daughter, Jane.

Jane Cateram married Edward Turner in Barthomley on 14th February 1842.
Father: John Cateram
Witnesses: Ralph and Sarah Jones

Jane Caterhan, and Jane and Edward Turner, were at Wheelock Heath, Haslington, Nantwich, Cheshire in 1851

They had a daughter, Hannah, baptised in Haslington on 30th September 1854, although Jane was buried on 4th May 1854, and Edward had a new wife in 1861.

Hannah Turner married William Key on 3rd January 1876 in Haslinton, but no children on the next three censuses.

I did wonder about the marriage of Elizabeth to Samuel Hassall in 1787, although quite a while after John's birth, and I couldn't find anything else to confirm her identity.

I have found another of John and Jane's daughter's marriages.

Hannah Catram, on marriage licence, and Cateram on the parish record, on 13th August 1832 to Thomas Billington, of Audley, Staffs, in Barthomley. Again, I can't find anything else.

I have found something more about Hannah. She married again to Thomas Biddulph, but I can't find the details.

She is on a number of trees, without her proper surname, with at least one by a desendant.

In 1861, she was in Church Lawton, Cheshire, born 1807 in Haslington. Strangely, there is a Thomas Billington two doors away

At least two children.

There were other children, but not on the GRO

One of the witnesses to the marriage was Noah Biddulph and I am wondering if Thomas Billington was actually Thomas Biddulph.

The first child, Emma Biddulph, was baptised on 1st March 1835 in Talke, Staffordshire, although another record has nearby Audley.

1851 Census - Butt Lane, Audley Talk Hamlet, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire
Thomas Bidluph Head 53 1798 Coal labourer Audley, Staffordshire
Hannah Bidluph Wife 44 1807 - Audley, Staffordshire
George Bidluph Son 17 1834 Coal miner labourer Audley, Staffordshire
Emma Bidluph Daughter 15 1836 At home Audley, Staffordshire
Joseph Bidluph Son 12 1839 Scholar Audley, Staffordshire
Mary Bidluph Daughter 9 1842 Scholar Audley, Staffordshire
John Bidluph Son 6 1845 Scholar Audley, Staffordshire

Also at the same address in 1841 as Biddle, but not very legible and Hannah's age 55 on FindMyPast.
Ancestry has Biddle [Biddulph] and Hannah's age 35.

Hannah, age 61, of Lawton, buried in Church Lawton on 10th April 1867, and Thomas, age 73, on 9th May 1863.
