Ancestry DNA Matches Updated Display

Got the invite to upgrade yesterday. Can't see it's worth it just to see the no of cMs my matches share with each other.

What other benefits are there?
All I can see are things to do with my tree. I can get all that and more from my off line FT software.

The enhanced display and pro tools are different things. I have a  group of matches in the US that appear to be closely related to each other but usernames are a random selection of letters and numbers. The small matches are below 20cM so didn't always show in the old shared match lists. Pro tools has shown the group is spread over 4 generations and includes several half siblings which is useful. I only intend to have it for a month every now and then though the price seems to have gone up today for those who haven't signed up yet and it's unclear what the renewal price will be a month from now.

I really don’t know if it’s worth my while signing up for the pro tools add on…
I’ve already got access to about 10 other tests, of people who are related to me, or are DNA matches to me. I can see from looking at their DNA matches what the cMs levels are and who the shared matches are.

My query is, what would I gain from signing up to pro tools, that I haven’t already got?

It may help people sort out unusual clusters. I have a large  US cluster of matches who are all at the 5C/5C1R/6C level who come out at higher than expected cM levels, but I was able to work that out (eventually) by paper trails

A month’s Subscription should enable the vast majority of DNA matches that are of interest to have the data checked and noted.

I found I had the "beta" display yesterday with squares instead of dots. It is not marked beta so I guess the new display is now the standard version. The new matches filter has disappeared. I will use it for a few days before making up my mind on it. I don't see any real improvements. Mostly cosmetic.

I still have the old matches list, so they haven't rolled it out fully as the standard version

I did the upgrade to Protools for 1 month and have now cancelled it.

It was useful in that it let me see how some of the smaller matches fitted in, and it also helped to confirm for me that my paternal grandfather William James Wilson, born Manchester 1860 and Richard Kean, born Manchester 1860, - were one and the same person. DNA results don’t lie, and I wouldn’t have so many matches to Richard Kean’s wider family if this wasn’t the case.

I doubt that I’ll ever know the exact reason for the name change, but at least I can let it lie now…

Personally, I think that the protools should be available as part of the Subscription fees.

Use the 'sort' option to switch between shared dna & most recent as needed.
