Ancestry DNA Matches Updated Display

Well it has got worst.

Our DNA is now showing Beta.

It is totally useless for us, with very slow loading Matches only 20 people per page and when it eventually loads clicking on Page two sends itninto a refresh page one mode and then the Loop continues.

Brain dead Ancestry IT staff who would soon complain if they picked up their new car only to find no steering wheel just a note saying “Design in Beta”.

after watching that, i am glad i dont have the beta :-) apart from the fact i can't fee back to ancestry how bad it is they have removed some of my common used filters.
The only change i want from ancestry from there earlier announcements is the changes to the shared matchs so that i can see how many cM A & B share rather than how much i share with them.

That would be a great feature.

As it is mine does now seem to function OK, I am not getting the hang up loop when I apply a filter.

Two things I do not like (1) only 20 matches per page but this can be changed to 50, one has to click to get the next page (2) there is more menu clicking.

 I have had about a week to play with this new Beta version now and I can find nothing to recommend it apart from the 1st letter of the group name being displayed. Everything else is a step backwards, mostly cosmetic, but one item is a HUGE problem.
As part of these changes they have changed to relationship predictor to exclude everything further out than 4th cousin, so for example the very last match in my list at 1 segment of 8cM according to Ancestry has a 68.9% chance of being in the 4th cousin group (4C,3C1R etc). This is an utterly ridiculous number, SegcM (my go to predictor) has the 4C group at 1.7% and the highest likelyhood being 8C1R at 20.9% which feels a lot more like it to me.
This in itself wouldn't have been a problem as Ancestry's predictions have always been poor and I have never trusted them but they have compounded this by enforcing them. This means that I cannot set any relationship outside of what Ancestry allow so for my smallest match at 8cm I cannot now set "Distant Cousin" and put the true relationship in the notes, as I have been doing, but have to leave it as their suggested "4th cousin or half 3rd cousin 1x removed".
This leads to the farcical position in ThruLines of being unable to set the relationships Ancestry itself suggests.
As you might imagine I have let Ancestry know my feelings on this. I would urge anybody who has the Beta version to check this out and confirm what I have found and if so let Ancestry know.

Yes I agree, being able to edit the relationship up to 4th cousin to show the correct one was very useful. What would also be useful if it differentiated, (by different colour or something) between its predicted relationship and the user corrected relationship.

After all the negative comments about the new beta version of AncestryDNA, I managed to access an account that has beta rolled out. And...

I like the beta version!

I like having page numbers - for me it makes going through matches much easier. You can change the number of matches per page from 20 to 50 by scrolling down to the toggle in the bottom left hand corner. And you can jump pages (if you are on page 2 or more) by changing the page number at the end of the URL (in the address bar), then pressing enter or return.

Having the 1st letter/number of the group now appear in the coloured square also works for me - as my paternal groups all begin with P and my maternal groups with M. Thus the colour is less important, as my 'squared' matches now have P or M displayed.

I like being able to do more things from the match list, rather than having to go into the match entry. For example, adding/editing comments.

It took me awhile to find the list of groups (coloured squares), but I finally found it in the dropdown under: More filters...

The beta changes are minor. The big changes will come when Pro Tools rolls out with the new DNA tools. More colours. More groups. And showing how much DNA your match shares with the match you share.

I agree about moving that line. Although you cannot reverse the sort direction, it is possible to filter by the number of cMs match. So you could choose to see just your lowest matches e.g 6cm or a 6 -7 cM range.
I have labelled my matches according to the 16 main lines, using the pinkish colours for maternal and the bluish colours for paternal. Then I have 6 colours allocated to major clusters I haven't definitely identified.  I have 7 duplicates on initial letters, so initial on square of a different colour to the one I chose is very confusing.
