I struggle with Family Search. There is a tree that claims my great-grandmother married a Thomas Williams, which is correct, but the wrong Thomas Williams and over 40 miles away from where she actually married. Then they emigrated to USA. She is buried in Laugharne Churchyard, with her husband. I have left notes but nothing has changed. It seems some, probably volunteers linked to Family Search, are actively creating ‘possible’ trees from basic census information and taking a stab at making some connection; so others will correct and/or add information. Another issue is Llanmiloe and Llandeilo. When searching I am offered Llanmiloe which is of interest, but when reading the record it is Llandeilo some 30 miles away, though still in Carmarthenshire. Family Search does not seem to allow any way of contacting them to highlight issues, or I have not found a way. Because of the issues experienced, I will not place my tree on Family Search.

Thanks, Rhonda for your kind offer.  I will contact him when I am able, and ask him.  It may be a little while before I get back to it as I have to travel away for a funeral.

Hi I use familysearch as well as Ancestry, I really like familysearch as it is totally free and does have some good information but as it is all public anyone can change or add to your tree there is a function to highlight on each individual ancestor that you have spent a considerable time on research and for anyone attempting to add or change to be aware of that fact but they can ignore it but I still think it is a valuable addition to have familysearch I hope you can persevere and put up with it as it can help others locating data and information to help them get started even if there is a high percentage of false/misleading and useless additions added by others. garngad

I was going to start a new thread about a new YouTube film by James Tanner of FS, but I'll mention it here instead.

The Ten Most Annoying Habits of FamilySearch Family Tree Users – James Tanner (30 Jun 2024) New this week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOWgEolt7-g&t=1313s

It really makes you think! Tanner is such a good teacher, soothing voice, wisdom & common sense, rather than a shrieky would be game show host like most of the others.

On Family Search there is a tree linking to my family, but with a few blank branches. I added some information and then made a mistake. The male I added married the daughter who was illegitimate; and I placed him marrying her mother. Although I have now placed him correctly, I have not found a way of removing the mistake, or contacting Family Search. I could have added more, but gave up instead.

I don't use FS trees much, but recently I made a point of linking the two parts of a family in England and in Canada, because one Canadian entry had a birth Ireland which was not correct.  Then I made a mistake elsewhere confusing father and son with the same first name.  I corrected it but could not remove the incorrect source, so left a note about it.

When I eventually went back to the other person, I found something to the effect of "This event is connected to someone else, do you want to unconnect it?" so eventually I removed the note.

It is difficult to keep the whole picture in your mind.  It is all strictly logical, but too clever by half!

On another matter relating to messaging, I had managed to contact them at: eu_support@familysearch.org
