Thanks Amondg.  I am also interested in tracing the Bunkers back as well.  However, I had got no further back than Elizabeth Richardson's parents John and Ann Bunker because there were several John Bunkers, and John and Ann Bunkers in that part of Devon then.

The marriage you found of John Bunker and Ann Lethbridge on 1 October 1802 in Holcombe, Devon, certainly places them as the parents of Mary Ann Bunker (1802-1848).

However, according to the 1851 census Elizabeth Bunker, the wife of William Richardson (1797-1869) was born in Wembury, Devon c 1799.  She died age 54 in June 1853, Plympton St Mary Union. Elizabeth, dau of John and Ann Bunker, was baptised on June 11 1798 in Wembury, Devon.

I am not sure what to make of this.  It could be that Elizabeth Bunker (1798-1853) and Mary Ann Bunker (1802-1848) were related but not sisters.

John Bunker married Ann Cleave on 14 June 1790 at St. Werburgh's Church, Wembury, Devon.  They had eight children baptised in Wembury:
Mary Bunker 1791-1792
John Bunker 1793-1844
Mary Bunker 1796-1797
Elizabeth Bunker 1798-1853, married William Richardson on 15 July 1819, East Stonehouse Devon
Sally Hickson Bunker 1802-
Mary Bunker 1805-1881
William Bunker 1807-1811
William Bunker 1811-1883

I would welcome any thoughts and suggestions.

Good find.

Did son William marry Mary Proctor 1840  they had a son John Avery Bunker 1841 who joined the Navy.
Mary Bunker's death 1844 age 24

William then married Jane Williams widow nee Tamlin 28 December 1845. She had previously married Samuel Williams 1837

Thanks Amondg.  I also have this.  The 1841 census records William and Mary Bunker and his mother Ann Bunker in Down Thomas, Wembury, either living with or close to Ann Avery and her four children.  Similarly, the 1851 census lists William and Jane Bunker, son John, and Ann Bunker next to Thomas and Ann Avery and their children in Down Thomas.  I suppose that explains the name William Avery Bunker, and suggests a possible family connection between the Bunkers and Averys.  The 1871 census has visitor Albert Avery age 7 with William and Jane Bunker in Gabber, Wembury.  Albert was still with them in the 1881 census, listed as nephew.  Listed near them in the 1871 census Mary A Avery and her nephew William.  Albert Edward Avery was baptised on 24 Apr 1864, parents Samuel and Jane Avery.  GRO records his mmn as Parsons.

Samuel Avery and Jane Parsons had married in 1855 and also had a son named Samuel Bunker Avery in 1869, who joined the navy in 1888.

Amondg, I have obtained William George Richardson's birth certificate, which lists his dob as 25 January 1841.  While that is different from William Richardson, who enlisted in the navy, and was born in Plymouth on 25 February 1842, I have not found a birth registration for William Richardson in GRO for the Plymouth area during 1842.
