William George RICHARDSON 1841-
« on: Monday 27 May 24 22:39 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate any help in tracing William George Richardson (1841-), son of William Richardson (1797-1869) and Elizabeth Bunker (1798-1853). William George Richardson was born in Plymouth in 1841.  The 1851 census records him living with his parents at 43 Richmond Street, Plymouth.  I have not found a record of him thereafter.  Army pension records show that his father moved from Plymouth to Bristol in February in 1860 and then permanently relocated from Bristol to Cork in September 1860.  His father died in Queenstown, Cork, Ireland in February 1869.

The National Archives has a file for William Richardson born 25 February 1842 Plymouth Devon
Signed up 18 November 1857.

Your William was registered March quarter 1841, is it possible his DOB is on year out.

Service number 35124

If you have a copy of his birth certificate it will give his actual date of birth. If it's 25 February 1841 instead of 1842, then I expect it's the same man.

Many thanks Amondg for your replies.  Yes, he had an older brother also William George Richardson who was born and died 1839 in Plymouth.  I did not know about his sister Maria born 1843 Plymouth and died there age 0 in 1844.  Maria's GRO birth record lists her mother's maiden name as Bunker, which confirms the link.  Maria's baptism and burial records on Family Search both give her address as Cambridge Street which matches the 1841 census for her parents and siblings.

On GRO, I also found an older sister also Maria who died age 2 in 1838.  Her burial record on Family Search also gives her address as Cambridge Street, so that ties in.  I have not found her baptism.

Unfortunately, I do not have William George Richardson born 1841's birth certificate.  I have not found his baptismal record that might also have included his date of birth.

Thank you for suggesting the National Archives file, which I have now looked at.  It would not surprise me if living in Plymouth he had joined the navy.  His father had been a long-term soldier.

The family named Spink(s) listed before the Richardson family 1841 census.

Mary Spinks was Mary Ann Bunker, who married William Henry Spinks 9 October 1829 at Holbeton Devon, it's likely she is a sister to Elizabeth.

Many thanks for your replies, which have opened up new branches to follow.  Baptismal records show that Elizabeth Richardson (nee Bunker) and Mary Ann Spinks (nee Bunker) had the same parents John and Ann Bunker, and so were sisters.

GRO has Mary's son William Henry Spinks born 1841, with mmn Bunker.

Below the 6 June 1841 baptismal record for William John Richardson is one on the same day for William Henry Spink(e)s, parents William and Mary Ann Spink(e)s of Cambridge Street.  Spink(e)s's occupation is too feint to read.  The 16 October 1846 baptismal record for William and Mary Ann Spinks's son Frederic Thomas Spinks lists the father's occupation as carpenter and address Cambridge Street.  The GRO birth registration for Frederick Thomas Spinks lists the mmn as Bunker.

It all ties together.
