A rather unusual birth certificate
« on: Sunday 26 May 24 10:58 BST (UK) »
Searching for the birth of a Myfanwy Davies I bought a few digital images from the GRO, one of them was this:

Myfanwy Davies, 29 Jan 1890, 18 Cyfarthfa Row, Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil, no father named (was '-' on the GRO so i was expecting that), mother Sarah Davies, seamstress. But the informant entry says: The mark of Sarah Davies, present at death, dated 27 Feb 1890. I did wonder if maybe the baby died and the mother registered both birth and death at the same time, but there's no matching death record  ???

Could it be this one?....

Apr-Jun 1890 Merthyr Tydfil 11a 305 DAVIES Myfanny (not sure if this is an error in the actual index or on the GRO site only) age 0

Maybe for some reason it was entered in the next quarter?

Could be, though that doesn't explain the 'present at death' if registered separately or the spelling of her first name.

There is a 60 year old Sarah Davies, married, at the same address in 1891, no Myfanwy though.

Pretty sure she's not the one I'm looking for in any event (and certainly not if she died) as I have a birth date of 22 Dec 1892 on the 1939 register, aged 25 on her marriage in 1918, father Richard Davies, aged 28y 8m in 1921 born Merthyr Tydfil (the only known place of birth), but date of 22 Dec 1889 from her death in 1972 in Hammersmith.

These are not original records, but info that has been copied (possibly more than once) Almost certainly a transcription error.

Thanks Anthony, not the one I'm looking for, so won't get the original (presumably from the local registration office?), but would be interesting to see what it says.

Would this be the birth you are looking for?

It was the one i felt was closest but DoB is 6 Dec 1892, father John Davies, coalminer, so doesn’t fit what we know (22 Dec 1892 on 1939 register, but 22 Dec 1889 on her death certificate, father David, steelworker according to her marriage). I know many dates on the 1939 register aren’t correct, and the father named on her marriage could be made up, but as it stands nothing fits sadly.

Sorry I am confused, is it the daughter of David you are looking for? That Myfanwy I think is at 31 Pontpren, Penderyn (Brecon), Merthyr Tydfil, Breconshire, Wales in 1901 and 1911

Yes i am looking for a father David but he is supposed to be a steelworker (if her marriage certificate is correct).
