John Jefferson
« on: Sunday 19 May 24 08:57 BST (UK) »
Hi,

John Jefferson is my 5th great-granduncle. He was baptised on 10/02/1767 in the parish of St. Mary's, Carlisle, Cumberland.

I have found a John Jefferson who was buried 04/07/1816, aged 49, also at St Mary's, Carlisle and wonder if there is anyway of verifying that this is the same person.

I don't know if he got married and have been unable to trace a Will.

His parent's, I think, were Robert Jefferson and Anne Johnstone. Siblings that survived childhood were: Robert, (baptised 1769), (Robert was my 5th x great grandfather), Jane, (baptised 1771), Joseph, (baptised 1774), (possibly married Hannah Mark in 1797), Thomas and James, (baptised 1781).

Any help gratefully received.

Per a death announcement in the Carlisle Patriot of 6 July 1816 he was a hairdresser. Died at English Street.

That's brilliant! His father, Robert, was a Barber and several of John's nephew's and nieces were born in English St.  Thank you so much.

Is the Carlisle Patriot available on-line and, if so, can you access it via pay-as-you-go or do you have to subscribe?

I would like to try and trace further details of John's siblings who were: Robert, (baptised 1769), (Robert was my 5th x great grandfather), Jane, (baptised 1771), (possibly married Robert Lewis in 1790), Joseph, (baptised 1774), (possibly married Hannah Mark in 1797), Thomas and James, (baptised 1781).

British Newspaper Archive or FindMyPast newspapers ( it's the same database).

I think BNA allows a few free views/downloads without a sub.

I have used the British Newspaper Archive online at the local library where, you get two hours free as long as you are a member and you register, you also have access to Ancestry and Find my Past.
Happy hunting.
