The mother, Ane Christine (Kjerstine) Eriksdatter apparently had a colourful life giving birth to children sired by four different fathers. Perhaps I'll start a different thread for her, since I am interested to identify how other DNA matches are related to me.

In the 1900 Census we have Sigurd Olsen born 19/9/99. It says he was the son of #5 - or does it say #3?

I'd say son of #5, so Karoline was an unmarried mother.
