Gilliver - Napoleonic Wars
« on: Friday 10 May 24 13:44 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

FamilySearch has thrown up a record that suggest my husbands ancestor died in the Napoleonic Wars.

Name   Robert Gilliver
Birthplace   Oversyl
Death Date   1813
Military Rank   Soldier
Event Type   Military Service
Event Place   France
Series Number   ADM 103/632
Affiliate Publication Title   Register of Deaths for British POWs 1794-1815
Affiliate Name   The National Archives
Prison Name   Cambrai
Ship Name   Coldstream Guards
War   Napoleonic Wars

Our Robert Gilliver was born c1779 in Overseal/Netherseal Derbyshire. In have found on ancestry a muster roll showing a Robert Gilliver joined in 1797 and was taken prisoner in 1812 so the putting together the dates, ages, places it look like it could be the same person.

I don't have a Find My Past subscription to view this record. Is there a way to pay as you go to read this record? Can anybody tell me what level of detail the record is likely to contain? I don't want to waste limited resources if it doesn't tell me any more than the index information.

Many Thanks,

Sarah

The record on FindMyPast is a single line entry in a log. Looks to me like all of the information is in the transcript.

The only additional information is that the date of death is 24 February 1813.  Two versions available on FindMyPast.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
