What you sometimes get from marriage records are the fathers' names, whether they are deceased and their profession. I guess it's the records post around 1830 that have that information.
I'm sure you all use this "side" information to confirm if it's the right couple getting married and also to confirm facts about the others on the marriage record. If the subjects sign with a mark that also sometimes confirms facts, eg. if previously they've signed something.
