1841/1851 Lookup

Hi I am looking for census information about Robert Goddard born Dallinghoe in about 1838. I cannot find his birth but on his marriage certificate his fathers name is also Robert.

There are several contenders on both the 41 and 51, but none of them were born in Dallinghoo or nearby I'n afraid! :(

I note that Robert gives his place of birth as Dallinghoo on both the 91 and 81 censuses, but I cannot find a Robert born Dallinghoo on either the 61 or 71!

I think that you will need to obtain Robert and Ruth's marriage certificate as this will confirm Robert's father's name.

I have now found the family in 71.  The enumerator has them down as GARRODS!  Robert still gives his place of birth as Dallinghoo and appears to have 2 stepchildren, so Ruth may have been married before, or perhaps they were born out of wedlock.  If you want the full details of this entry - let me know.

This is interesting, because I have gone through all of Dallinghoo in 51, and there is a family of GORRADS, with a Robert aged 1, that might be your family.

This is the only family that remotely fits the bill in Dallinghoo in 51.  There are no GODDARDS at all living there.

This is the same family in 41.  The 1841 does not record relationships within households or exact place of birth. It only indicates whether or not someone was born within the census county.  Adult ages are often rounded to nearest 5.

I have Robert and Ruths marriage certificate she was a widow when they married. I think they must be the same family because  the age of Robert fits and the surname is so close.
