On the Hardy trail. Same or different person?
« on: Monday 01 April 24 17:23 BST (UK) »
My father John Hugh Henry Hardy was born Wareham, Dorset in 1904. Died 1974.
He already had a family of which I'm not part.

Wondering if this is the same person, as found via FreeBMD
Hardy John H H married McIntyre / or Hardy - from the entry) Chesterfield 3a 518 Dec 1947 - is there a reson for the 2 names ?
If it is it's a long way from home and I'm wondering what he's doing there. Another family?
Is there an easy way to check without ordering a certificate?

Was he in WW2,  stationed away from home and married there, just a thought

I suppose at 43 that's possible. His son, my half brother flew in a Lancaster out of Lincolnshire up till early 1945 (crashed, died).
If I could confirm as John Hugh Henry that would help. But how?
He's back in Hampshire by 1953 at the latest, hence me.
Besides my records (adoption) mention his "family" of 4 or 5 children - 2 post school age.
Just a bit confusing.
To add or eliminate?

The 1947 marriage you found could be for this chap:

Hardy, John Henry H (born 1924, died 1999 Chesterfield)

The reason for the two surnames for the bride on the index will be that the two surnames appear against her name in some form on the marriage certificate.
For instance it might read xxxxx Hardy formerly known as xxxx McIntyre, or xxxxxx Hardy alias xxxxx McIntyre. You would need to acquire the certificate to find out exactly what was stated.

I found this death in Chesterfield with the middle name of Fraser which I think may tie in with the marriage in 1947

Jessie Fraser Hardy
Birth    6 Jul 1923
Death Oct 1977 Chesterfield, Derbyshire

And there is a birth  on Scotlandspeople that may tie in

JESSIE FRASER MACINTYRE mmn ROBERTSON F 1923 526 / 27 Lochgilphead

With your help I think we've eliminated the Chesterfield one.
I have the birth certificate for my father from 1904 etc
It was just that with the same set of initials they both appeared in the same search and I needed to know if mine had moved around or remarried.
My thanks
