1939 register

Hi, does anyone know what the date and letters refer to on the left hand side, written in blue on the attached pic.  It is from the 1939 register entry for Ellen Ivy Jerome. Jerome has been crossed out and Borthwick added, this being her married name. However, I cannot find a record of their marriage? Husband was John Borthwick. Thanks.

The code NR230 indicates a change of name other than by marriage, see para 2.2 here

As an example, my mother in law left her husband in the 1960’s and went to live with another man, taking his surname. The register was updated, using code NR230, with her adopted surname when the change came to light for some reason.

JenB, Do you think the date relates to when the register was altered or, the date her name change was registered officially? I have just checked The Gazette but cannot find her? Thanks.

Why would she change her name "officially"?
People in the UK were able to call themselves anything they liked; just as long as it wasn't for the purposes of deception or fraud.

I believe that the date is when the amendment was done by the NHS

It's the fact that her name was changed on the 1939 Register? I presumed it must have been done by Deed poll or why bother to amend the Register. More questions than answers!

If she used the NHS for any reason and was using another name then it would be changed.
