First son William Evelyn 1877 - possibly named for Rowland's father
Have you done a DNA test? I wonder if he was Irish
According to his obit, he was buried in the Presbyterian section of the cemetery. Was he from Scotland?
Just in case they followed naming patterns AMENDEDFirst daughter Edith Sarah Ann 1876First son William Evelyn 1877 - possibly named for Rowland's grandfather second son John Alexander 1880 - possibly named for Rowland's father and Elizabeth's.second daughter Florence Christina 1882 third son Roland Robert 1883 - given his father's name4th son James 1885Ancestry hints give Elizabeth Armstrong's father possibly as Alexander Armstrong and wife Christina nee Groat. Originally from Scotland 1861 census England where Alexander is an assistant Prison Warden at Portland Prison Dorset.
Have you considered getting his death certificate? Am I right in thinking that parents are named on Australian death certificates?

Yes correct Rowland by all accounts used to work for Alexander in a launch business (Armstrong & Waters) after Alex retired from being a warden in Albany WA. He married Alexs daughter Elizabeth!

Could it be he was a Whaler in Tasmania and went to Albany for more work as Albany was a rich whaling ground?
