Are they the same family? Amor family tree
« on: Friday 01 March 24 22:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi team,

I am trying to find the common connection between the Amors who lived in Walhalla Victoria Australia between the 1870s-1910s and the Amors from South Australia/Wiltshire UK.

Both immigrated from Wiltshire UK, so I am sure there is a common ancestor in the trees somewhere!

Our ancestors (paternal line) follow as below:
> John Amor (Birth 24 AUG 1804 • Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, Death 10 JAN 1886 • Adelaide, South Australia)

> Edward William Amor (Birth 12 DEC. 1852 • Pennortham, South Australia, Death 5 MAR 1942 • At home, 71 Devereaux St, Warracknabeal, Victoria, Australia)

> Edward William "Ted" AMOR (Birth 15 JAN 1882 • Owen, South Australia, Australia, Death 19 AUG 1949 • Warracknabeal, Victoria, Australia)

Here is a link for the list of Walhalla Amors- https://www.walhalla.org.au/news/People/1806A.pdf

Any help or advice to work out how these Amors are connected would be very much appreciated!

Were John's parents Thomas & Mary?  If so there are four potential siblings for him.  Please note that the information is from transcripts not the original image.

Maria born 30 Jan 1800 bap 23 May 1800, James born 25 Jan 1803 bap 13 Feb 1803, Sophia born 14 Jan 1807 bap 30 Jan 1807 and Thomas born 19 Nov 1808 bap 7 Dec 1808.

All baptised at Salisbury, Wiltshire.  As there was no image to view I don't know what Thomas Snr's occupation may have been.

Added:  If you have a subscription to Ancestry they have Wiltshire Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1916, so you may be able to find a marriage for Thomas & Mary on there.

John Amor who died 10 January 1886 at Mallala SA was aged 76. (South Australia death registration). So probably born c1809.

John Amor who married Mary Ann Gillen 10 November 1851 at Schoolhouse, Penwortham, Adelaide was a widower aged 36. So born c1815, although he might have wanted to play his age down a bit; his bride was aged 24.

He is in 340 Ancestry trees. I haven't checked them all, but there doesn't seem to be agreement on when and where in Wiltshire he was born. However, I think that John Amor born in Salisbury 24 August 1804 probably is not your man, as it looks as though he lived out his life in Wiltshire.

It's possible that he came from the Pewsey area, where your NSW Amors were from. Do you know anything about his first wife, who perhaps married him in Wiltshire?
