Aeronaut Nellie Neill (Abt 1880-1940)
I have read that Nellie Neill was born in Canada, but at some stage moved to England and ballooned / parachuted in the Birmingham, Warwickshire, England and Pontypool, Monmouthshire Wales areas, roughly 1902-1907.
I have found lots of newspaper articles about her ballooning exploits, but cannot locate her place and dates of birth and death.
Unfortunately Nellie Neill seems to be a very common name!
Her surname in newspaper articles is occasionally spelled Neall.
To complicate matters further, I don't know if Neill is her maiden or married name!
Here she is in the "Who's Who of Ballooning":
NEALL, Nellie (F) BRITAIN (1880?1940)
p: Professional balloonist; Protégé of FLEET.
f: First recorded ascent 1 Jun.1903. ***Epic flight 6 Jun.1906 From Pontypool. Made a rapid ascent with a torn balloon. Her leg was caught in a rope, holding her upside-down. She succeeded in climbing the rope, releasing the parachute, and landed safely.
Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you.
