Hello, I am descended from Arthur Wallace, one of James Wallace's brothers. I've done an ancestry.com dna test, and loaded the raw data up onto gedmatch.com and ftdna.
Are there any descendants of James Wallace in Tasmania  out there that would like to do a dna test (I'm happy to pay for the dna test kit) so that we can prove if the James Wallace in Tasmania is the James Wallace that was here in New Zealand.
Cheers, Terry Love, Wellington New Zealand

John Alexander McCain Wallace was also my GGG grand father.

Manson - if you want more information about the family, I have a lot.

Terry Love - Chris Korte (who has a Wallace family tree page) worked out this James must be him as he was the only James Wallace discharged from the 65th Foot Regiment in NZ.

Hi Susan, Yes, I have seen Chris's page. Awesome piece of work. However, it is still theory at this stage. "he was the only James Wallace discharged from the 65th Foot Regiment in NZ" Yes - he may well have been, but there were other James Wallace's in New Zealand at the same time. There is no actual proof that he went to Tasmania, just some reasonable evidence. Enough that I have now added it to my tree, but all the same, I am uncomfortable about it at this stage. That is why I'm keen for one of the Tasmanian Wallace descendants to do a dna test, and see if it matches mine/other NZ Wallaces. Then it will be clearer. Also, maybe on Trove or in an old Tasmanian newspaper there may be an article written when James died. There certainly were articles in Wanganui Newspapers for his brother Arthur Wallace  and John Alexander McKane Wallace. Do you have any photo's of the 3 brothers in uniform? (or any photos of any of them in uniform?) Cheers, Terry

Hi Terry -  Chris has one of our GGG grandfather and his wife. I have been to visit Heads Road to see where they were buried. Which of their children was your GG grandparent? I am descended from James and Caroline. I did a trip around the North Island once and visited all of my ancestors graves - it was a moving experience.

I descend from Arthur Wallace (c 1821 - 1876) m Mary Plunkett. He is also buried at Old Heads Road, but there is no gravestone for him. I am about to rectify that. Arthur and Mary had 5 children: William, Richard, John Henry, Elizabeth, and Arthur (Archie). I descend from John Henry (1853-1932) m Ellen Pawson. He was an incredible man, and supported poorly by the Government of the day.

I was in touch briefly with another of Arthur's descendants. She lived here in Qld, Australia but didn't seem interested in hooking up.

I found Heads Road to be in a lot of disrepair - great you are going to have a headstone made for Arthur.

I only found John Alexander's grave because of a photo posted by another descendant. I took a copy with me so I could work out where it was.
