James Jackson. Bangalore, India

I was wondering if anyone could help me trace James Edward Jackson, estimated birth is Q4 1868 in Bangalore, India.

His wife's name was Kate, and in the 1901 England census they were living in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, with their 3 children, George Henry (aged 4), Rebecca (aged3) and Elsie (aged 1), he was working as a general labourer

In the 1911 census the family are still in Arnold but Elsie has died and James is listed as born in Manchester, he is working as a Miner (road maker)
 
By 1921 James and Kate only have Rebecca living with them and James is listed as born in Basford, Nottinghamshire and working as a coal hewer at Gedling Colliery


Any help in finding his birth record, passage out to India or back to England, marriage record or death record would be appreciated, Thanks

Where has that come from please? 

The birth registrations of the children should show mothers maiden name - where were they born? **

** Mothers maiden name GRAY for the girls but

George Henry Jackson Gray is registered Jun 1897 with no mothers maiden name so presume before they married.

There is a James E Jackson death in Nottingham in 1941 age 71

Hi Milliepede,

the birth of James Edward Jackson comes from the 1901 census which states born in Bangalore. India.

I cant find them yet on the 1939 register, a couple of possibilities don't quite fit.

hmm, the link you found to the surname Gray suggests 2 marriages within the Jackson / Gray families

James's son George Henry Jackson married Lily Gray, they ran a chip shop on Carlton road in Nottingham.

The James/Catherine marriage certificate should give the name/occupation of his father which might give a clue as to the Indian connection.  If he really was born there, pity it doesn't appear on any other census.

Possible death for Kate - Mar 1936 Basford age 67 which would tie in with James being a widower in 1939.
