What is his profession
« on: Friday 27 October 23 15:21 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone I wonder if any of you can help with the profession of Edmund Lonsdale. The only thing I can think of is Pewterer but I would be grateful for any other suggestions. Thank you.

Hello - I'm not sure - the only information I have is from the wedding certificate and the fact that his wife remarried in August 1892 presumably because Edmund died. However the suggestion of a cloth tenterer is very good. There were lots of mills in the area so that is more believable than pewterer. I was hoping to get information from the death index to send for a death certificate. Both Catherine's husbands died very young and I was curious what the cause was.

Wonder if it could be Tenter / Tenterer

1) Tenterer - Someone who, after cloth was dyed, stretched it on a frame, called a "Tent" for drying . This frame was fitted with hooks known as "Tenterhooks"

Looks nothing like the 'P' in parish

Thank you for all your replies. In my efforts to make the attachment the right size I cut off some of the information. I've attached the full copy. I think he was called Edmund the grooms name could be Edward but the part next to his mark is clearly Edmund and if his age is correct he would have been born in 1854. His father was John and he could have been involved in mining as a carter. He probably died sometime before his wife's second marriage in Aug 1892. Catherine's second husband died before 1901 as in the 1901 census she is marked as a widow. Catherine's maiden name was Jones and in the 1901 census she is living next door to her sister Rebecca Boyes nee Jones. I cant find any records of Edmund's death
