Marriage records
« on: Monday 02 October 23 15:21 BST (UK) »
Hello, I may well be posting in the wrong place here so apologies in advance!
When searching FreeBMD I have found what is probably a tenuous link to my great-grandparents' marriage inasmuch as there were 2 people of the same names married at Prescot in Sep 1875, however, one is in Vol 8b page 1068, and the other Vol 8b page 1053.
I suspect that those entries mean they didn't marry each other, but I'm running out of straws to clutch to!
Thank you
John

The only way is to send off for the marriage cert of Michael Hughes on 8b 1053 or Mary Eustace on 8b 1068 in case there was a clerical error with the numbering.

I just had a thought, which can explain some missing marriages, is Mary Hughes was previously married before Michael Hughes, and either Mary Walsh or Mary Lowrey was her, and originally an Eustace.

I cannot find any transcripts of the marriage on FindMyPast or Ancestry. Since 2012, lots more has come online but not yet for their 1875 Prescot marriage.

Thank you all for your very swift and informative replies, unfortunately as I suspected!
I realise that not all couples married but with them being Catholic I thought it more likely they were. Although they were both born in Liverpool, both sets of parents were from Ireland so maybe they popped over there to marry, or more likely their records were destroyed in the bombing of Liverpool.
Thank you all again
John

Ireland civil registration began as a whole in 1864 but I think civil reg for Protestant marriages began in 1845.
