Scotland: Alvah Baptism Record 1730 - Margaret Joass
« on: Friday 01 September 23 08:35 BST (UK) »
I am hoping some person with local knowledge would be able to assist in deciphering the attached baptism record for Margaret Joass 1730 in Alvah.

What I can make out is:

Margaret lawful daughter to Alex Joass in Funksitone was baptised before Witnesses Wm Murray in (???) & William ??? (possibly Mills) in Burnside.

Sorry for the clarity and size of the doc. Unfortunately the system doesn't permit reasonable size attachments which would make deciphering easier.

Thanks

Craig

Hi,

I'm no expert on this kind of thing  :) but I see Funkiestone (rather than Funksitone) and something along the lines of Anrichne ??? for the other one.

Let's see what the experts say.

Thanks Karen, Funkistone was my bad, I had typed the message 3 times and 2 times lost my text when the file was a tad large. I am thinking now that it is phonetic and meant to be Inverichnie.

As you say, lets see what the experts say and if they agree with us.

Cheers

Craig

Margaret law[fu]ll Dau[ghte]r to Alex[ande]r Joass
in Funkiestone was baptised before
Witnesses W[illia]m Murray in Anrichne &
William Mill in burnside

Anrichnie is probably Inverichnie.
When Alexander Duncan took on the tenancy of Funkiestown in 1860, he changed its name to Netherwood.
