David had a sister Susan 1855-1908, a brother Bernard 1857-1892 and sister Isabella/Georgina c1864


Just to add that Georgina was born 19.3.1891 the illegitimate daughter of Isabella. Born at same address as 1901 census.

I’m confused.  Is the Isabella c1866 a sister of David, Bernard and Susan as I can’t see any mention of her on any census prior to 1891 when my grandmother Georgina was noted on it along with David Cummings where his age was stated as 27.
I have found an Isabella born 1866 to parents Michael and Janetta who lived in Alloa.  And am wondering if this is the same Isabella on the 1891 census with David Cummings and Georgina.

Further info on that 1891 census has
David Cummings Head age 27 bn Edinburgh
Isabella (sister) 26 bn Edinburgh
Georgina Niece bn Shotts
Robert Latta (Boarder) bn Rutherglen

Isabella certainly had a brother David as per above, and Georgina's relationship to him and her birthplace, which is correct as per the image of her birth cert and same address in 1891 census,so a good starting point.

We know as from a previous post when and where David was born and his parents, Bernard Cummings & Ann McCallum.

Bernard, David's father died in 1865. We have found David & Georgina in 1871 as per previous post.

Now the tricky bit. Isabella (BC 1865/66). Either her mother Ann(McCallum) was pregnent with her, or Ann fell for Isabella after Bernard's death. I and other cannot find a birth registration for her, either with surname Cummings/ McCallum.

I have no doubts that Isabella is the sister to David.

Do you know per chance when Isabella died.

Susan, Bernard & Mary Ann, all their birth certificate indicate parentage of Bernard & Ann McCallum.

My grandmother’s (Georgina born 1891) first marriage certificate in 1912 states her mother as Ann Isabella Cummings.  Her first husband Matthew Aitken was a casualty of the First World War.
Her second marriage certificate in 1918 (when she married my grandfather William Bain) states her mother as Isabella Cummings (deceased).

Yes I have seen both those marriage records. However for the life of me cannot find an appropriate death for Ann Isabella/Isabella that would fit. Have found Georgina in 1911 aged 20 born Shotts as a domestic servant.

Still cannot find 1901 census for either Isabella or Georgina--that would be really useful. Wonder if they are in the workhouse somewhere?

I found the record of Georgina (my grandmother) in 1911 aged 20.  But can only find mention of Isabella and her in the 1891 census as being in Shotts.
I’ve had a look at the poorhouse records for Scotland and can’t find them there either.
