Hewitt, Elizabeth *Death Detail**

I am looking into the death of Elizabeth Hewitt, aged 13 in 1911
She is recorded as having drowned in the Grand Canal ( 22 April 1911) and i would like to see more Information on this sad Incident
Are there coroner records that are accessible that might provide greater detail

‘On Saturday afternoon, Alice aged 13 years, daughter of Mr James Hewitt, a labourer, whilst trying to ‘croon’ the footboard fell into the canal at the 2?th lock between the ‘laud’ racks and was drowned.’

The article might clarify the name - Alice or Elizabeth .

Have you seen this link? Appears that coroner's records may be in the National Archives of Ireland.

Twentieth-century coroners’ records also survive, with some counties being better represented than others.

Drowning at Tullamore.
On Saturday afternoon Alice, aged 13, daughter of Mr James Hewitt, a labourer, whilst trying to cross the footboard fell into the canal at the 27th lock between the land racks, and was drowned.  The body, which had a coupe of marks, possibly caused by passing boats, was recovered at 11:30p.m. by Acting-sergt. Corcoran and some civilians  It was shown by the evidence given before Coroner Conway that no one was to be blamed.  The jury attached a paragraph to their verdict urging upon the Canal Company the necessity of making better provision for the public safety at this dangerous place where several accidents have occurred.

Poor Elizabeth, Lost so young.  I am looking into this branch of the Hewitt / Cunningham family (Tullamore) who are proving very difficult to build a fuller picture of , for reasons shared on previos posts, and then the first sign of light is due to the loss of Elizabeth.
