I have a Janet Thomson (maiden Burnet) on the 1851 census in Bo’ ness working as a tambourer. Did they do this from home

I can see no reference in the 1845 Statistical Account, but there is this reference in the Old Statistical Account (1795). You have to move to page 554 for the reference to tambour factories.

Whether 'factories' here refers to two workshops or if it merely refers to the organisation of the workers, I'm not sure.
