hello

im looking for the death of amelia ryland/papps/smith/woods/wathern.

everywhere i look it states she died in 1848 in nsw. and thats it!

she was born in london in 1780 and emmigrated to nsw in 1818 and remarried in 1825 to john wathern.

Hi Danjac2, there is an article in Trove (The Australian,17 Oct 1837) about the appearance before Quarter Sessions of a Mrs Ameiia WATHEN, who was fined, and later appealed the fine successfully. There is a John Wathern (again, see Trove) who was living in the Central West of NSW, and is buried in Rylstone NSW (date of death 1 Feb 1862. No record in NSW BDMs though. Amelia may have married again after John's death but I can't see any such marriage. Fran

In 1830 one John WATHEN swore an affidavit to the effect that his home had been robbed near Bathurst and money stolen along with his Ticket of Leave.
He is now proceeding to Sydney …..etc
He was a convict per ship Lord Eldon.

I do think this story I have found is probably about your Amelia WOOD, dated 1824, before her marriage to WETHERN.  It is a letter from one John ENNIS

Briefly.
Mrs Amelia WOOD of 31 Pitt Street Sydney has 2 government men (convicts) assigned to her. One is Edward NEWTON.  She is stated as of loose character.  Newton was placed in her charge after he robbed his last employer Mrs Mary PLOUGHWRIGHT (formerly ARTELL).who had him charged and returned to the barracks and Mrs WOODS  got him out by saying she was to marry him.

Here is their request to marry. I do not think the marriage took place.

The tale goes on with the letter author asserting that the whole situation seems to be a threat to decent society etc. 

The writing is fairly clear, but can be transcribed if needed.

The other convict assigned to her was Thomas PEARSON in 1823
