Census Lookup surname Worgan
« on: Friday 09 September 05 04:29 BST (UK) »
Hello, I was hoping that someone could do a census look-up for a Harriet Ellen Worgan born around 1850.  She married Caleb Aston in 1871, in Monmouth.  She is listed in the 1881 census in Newland, Gloucester...but I do not have any information about her prior to that time.

Many thanks!

Hi,
1851 census for West Dean Gloucestershire

Worgan Henry 29 Lab. at iron works born Newland
Charlotte 27 born West Dean
Hubert 6 born West Dean
Edith 4 born West Dean
Harriet 1 born West Dean

              ALSO

West Dean 1851

Aston Richard 27 collier born West Dean
Selina 23 born West Dean
Caleb 2 born West Dean
Edwin 1 born West Dean

Obtaining the marriage cert. for Caleb and Harriet
would be proof that these are the right families.

A coupl of mistakes you have made here, because this is a Gloucestershire related family. Monmouth registration district covers the North end of the Forest of Dean, So the marriage probably took place in Gloucestershire an easy mistake to make.

Gloucestershire registration districts

The other mistake is to take for granted that your findings on the civil registration indexes are correct. you are probably right with Caleb Aston being and unusual name, but there again they may not have married each other and she also may be a widow.

Until you purchase the marriage certificate you cant be sure. it would also help when asking other people to find someone for you having the fathers name from the certificate, because there again they could be following your mistake.

I have Aston & Worgan pedigrees from this area in my database.
