Definitely Miller, there were a number of Westons in the area who were millers.

It does seem curious not finding a death registration. The death notice being a little late whilst unusual is not uncommon.

You possibly have seen this already - He sold his business in High St, St Anne's Lewes in 1853 to P and T MARTIN.

Yes, I have seen those, thank you.  The second I think pertains to a different John Weston who died in 1861.

A burial on the 29th May, and a death notice in the newspaper on 3 June sounds reasonable.
The Sussex Advertiser seems to have been published twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

You don't think it could be Misindexed? There is a John Weston indexed in Kingston 2a 156. Looking at the john croft mentioned as registered ticehurst, their death certificates start 2b

Edit it's not that one as he was 36

That is certainly a possibility!  I looked at other editions over the next few weeks, didn’t see any “corrections” but that is not entirely unusual.

There is an administration in 1853 for Ann Weston.
Granted 30 November 1853 to John Weston of Burwash, Miller (and John Brook of Brightling, Tailor)

The Sworn John Weston of Burwash....Miller late the Husband of Ann Weston who died intestate on the 25th day of January 1830

Well, you are way ahead of me!  Haven’t even looked into Ann yet…she might be Ann Paine.
There are several John Westons in the area so it does get confusing.
I am not at home for a few days so don’t have access to my family history programme with notes, etc.
I am visiting family, but later when things are quiet, will have a look using my iPad.
