RAF Group photo with my Grandfather

Hi all,

I hope I have posted in the correct place.

I have found the attached photograph dating back to my Grandfather's time in the RAF which I was hoping someone could tell me a bit more about.

The photograph dates back to 1949/1950. Please can someone tell me more about the text at the top and bottom of the photograph?  He always told me he was based at RAF Padgate & Wittering.

I see so before 1949 then, thank you Tony.

So from reading a bit of the Wikipedia you shared he would have done an apprenticeship in administration whilst doing his national service then.

It wouldn't have been an apprenticeship as such. But he was being instructed in his RAF trade of pay clerk. Once he had completed his trade training (possibly about 4-6 months in duration) he would have been posted to another RAF station, presumably one of the two RAF stations you mentioned at the beginning of thread, where he would have been employed in Admin Wing, within the Station Headquarters dealing with the service pay of his fellow airmen and airwomen. As he was doing his National Service it's unlikely that he had more than the two postings you mention.

He would have been an Adult Trainee in National Service not an RAF Apprentice.
It is possible Basic Training (square bashing) was at another RAF Training base before Hereford.
